Gifted Education at OW
Olathe West Gifted Program Mission Statement:
Every student identified as gifted is unique and receives individual services appropriate for his or her needs and aspirations. Services at Olathe West include academic and career coaching, affective instruction and support, access to individualized counseling, opportunities to socialize with other gifted peers, and opportunities for in-depth self-directed research. An IEP guides instruction for the student within the gifted and general education programs as teachers and student work as a team to develop specific goals based on student need.
Olathe West Gifted Program Vision:
Identified gifted students will graduate high school excited and prepared for their future. Students continue to develop general intellectual ability, positive self concept, achievement motivation, and areas of talent through academic enrichment and acceleration and extended learning opportunities.

Meet Mrs. Bishop
Hello and welcome to my website! Although I am on a new adventure in the Middle School Science world, I am still here to answer questions, share ideas, and hear from you! If you have questions about anything you see or want some ideas, feel free to contact me.
I am an avid non-fiction reader and especially enjoy diving into the fields of educational psychology, mental health, and curriculum development. I have a Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education and a Gifted Certification from Emporia. Always looking for that next thing to learn about and try, you can definitely say I am a life-long learner! I am blessed to be working with a great team- teachers, students, parents, and community members- to develop authentic problem-based learning experiences and resources to challenge all students, but especially the gifted population at OW. I am inspired and excited by the insight and creativity gifted students bring to their environments when given the opportunity. |
You are part of the team!
Communication is key! Please visit this webpage often (especially the "current happenings" tab) for updated resources, information and dates regarding school activities and opportunities. Because parents can make such a big difference in their student's success, I hope to start up a parent support group that will function as a meeting place to share resources and common stories as well as garner advocacy for the gifted population at OW and in Olathe.

Don't just learn, experience.
Don't just read, absorb. Don't just change, transform. Don't just relate, advocate. Don't just promise, prove. Don't just criticize, encourage. Don't just think, ponder. Don't just take, give. Don't just see, feel. Don’t just dream, do. Don't just hear, listen. Don't just talk, act. Don't just tell, show. Don't just exist, live.” ― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart |
